What it means to have an Italian photographer for your Tuscany wedding

I grew up in Italy. I know the light in August, the rhythm of a Tuscan summer, and how to navigate the paperwork that comes with marrying in a country you do not live in.

I’ve been based in Norway for over ten years, which means I also understand exactly what Scandinavian couples are looking for and what they worry about when planning a destination wedding abroad.

Most photographers who shoot in Tuscany fly in for the season. I do not. This is home, and that makes a real difference, from knowing which venues are worth the drive to being able to recommend vendors I have actually worked with and trust.

Tuscany & Umbria: The Regions I Know Best

Siena and the surrounding countryside

Rolling hills, medieval architecture, and golden light that does something extraordinary in the late afternoon. The area around Siena is one of the most photographed landscapes in the world for good reason.

Livorno and the Etruscan Coast

Less expected than Siena, and all the better for it. The coastal light is different here, softer and more atmospheric, and the area has a character that suits couples who want something a little less on the tourist trail.

Pisa Beyond the tower

Pisa has beautiful piazzas, riverside walks, and a relaxed pace that works well for both intimate ceremonies and full-day weddings.

Grosseto and the Maremma

Wild, quiet, and genuinely beautiful. The Maremma is Tuscany without the crowds, and it is where I would send a couple who wants wide open countryside and the feeling of having the place to themselves.

Umbria

Just over the Tuscan border and often overlooked. Umbria has the same rolling hills and ancient hilltop towns, with fewer photographers competing for the same backdrop.

I’m also available in other regions of Italy. If you have a venue or location in mind that’s not listed here, get in touch and we can talk it through.

I can help you plan it, not just photograph it

Planning a wedding in a country you don’t live in is a lot. Language barriers, local bureaucracy, vendors you can’t easily meet in person, and a general sense that you are making decisions without enough information. I’ve helped couples navigate all of it.

For intimate weddings and elopements in Tuscany, planning support and vendor recommendations are included as part of the package. I know the region, I speak the language, and I have a network of vendors I trust and can connect you with.

How it works:

step one

Tell me about your vision

Fill out the contact form and share as much as you like about what you have in mind. Venue ideas, a general feeling, a season, or a very specific plan. All of it helps.

step two

We plan it together

I’ll share venue suggestions, connect you with trusted local vendors (florists, officiants, planners, hair and makeup), and help you think through the logistics. If you need guidance on the legal requirements for marrying in Italy as a foreigner, I can point you in the right direction there too.

step three

I photograph the day

On the day itself, I work quietly and without taking over. Candid, documentary wedding photography that captures the day as it actually felt, not a version of it staged for the camera.

Questions about getting married in Tuscany

Yes, foreigners can get married in Tuscany. The most common route is a civil ceremony at the local municipality (Comune), which requires a certificate of no impediment from your home country.

Requirements vary depending on your nationality, so it’s worth starting the paperwork early. I can help point you in the right direction.

Late spring (May and early June) and early autumn (September and October) are the most popular, and for good reason. The light is beautiful, the heat is manageable, and the landscape is at its best.

July and August are also possible, especially for smaller elopements where logistics are simpler, but they are hot and busy. Winter and early spring are worth considering for couples who want the region more to themselves.

No. Tuscany is home, so no travel fees are added for weddings in the region. One overnight stay may be required depending on timing and location.

Both. I photograph everything from intimate two-person elopements to full-day weddings with extended family and a proper dinner. If you’re not sure which fits your situation, that’s exactly the kind of thing we can talk through.

Yes. I work primarily in Tuscany and Umbria, but I am open to other regions depending on the wedding. Lake Como, Apulia, and the Italian Lakes are all places I would consider. Travel expenses may apply outside of Tuscany.
